چکیده

In light of multiple events over the last decade, there is a clear need for new and more sensitive methods of detecting explosives, especially those made by easily available materials. In fact, it was this kind of threat that lead to the banning of liquids in containers larger than 3 ounces on flights in the United States and most of the world. Triacetone triperoxide (TATP) is one of these explosives, as it has been used in multiple terrorist attacks both unsuccessful and successful. Since TATP is a peroxide, it should be possible to detect it by electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL). ECL at its simplest, is a process that involves the annihilation of redox generated species produced when a complex such as a transition metal chelate (MC) is oxidized and then then reduced rapidly as shown in equations 1-4

Electrogenerated chemiluminescence Part 54. Electrogenerated chemiluminescence of ruthenium( II) 4,4’-diphenyl-2,2’-bipyridine and ruthenium( II) 4,7-diphenyl-l,lO-phenanthroline systems in aqueous and acetonitrile solutions

The electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL) of Ru(dp-bpy):+ (dp-bpy = 4,4’-diphenyl-2,2’bipyridine) and Ru(dp-phen):+ (dp-phen = 4,7-diphenyl-l,lO-phenanthroline) in acetonitrile and aqueous solutions was studied. The diphenyl-substituted compounds produced a more intense emission than the nonsubstituted Ru(bpy):+ Ru(dp-phen):+ m acetonitrile. The ECL efficiencies, dECL, of Ru(dp-bpy):+ and we...

Tris(2,2′-bipyridyl)ruthenium(II) electrogenerated chemiluminescence sensor based on carbon nantube dispersed in sol–gel-derived titania–Nafion composite films

A highly sensitive and stable tris(2,2′-bipyridyl)ruthenium(II) (Ru(bpy)3) electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL) sensor was developed based on carbon nanotube (CNT) dispersed in mesoporous composite films of sol–gel titania and perfluorosulfonated ionomer (Nafion). Single-wall (SWCNT) and multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) can be easily dispersed in the titania–Nafion composite solution. Th...

Electrogenerated chemiluminescence detection of mercury(II) ions based on DNA probe labeled with ruthenium complex.

A novel mercury(II) ion (Hg(2+)) biosensor with electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL) detection using tris(2,2'-bipyridyl) ruthenium derivatives (ruthenium complex) as labeling was developed in the prescent work. One thymine (T)-rich single-strand DNA (ssDNA) labeled with a ruthenium complex was taken as an ECL probe. When the other T-rich capture ssDNA was self-assembled onto the surface of...

Developments and Applications of Electrogenerated Chemiluminescence Sensors Based on Micro- and Nanomaterials

A variety of recent developments and applications of electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL) for sensors are described. While tris(2,2'-bipyridyl)-ruthenium(II) and luminol have dominated and continue to pervade the field of ECL-based sensors, recent work has focused on use of these lumophores with micro- and nanomaterials. It has also extended to inherently luminescent nanomaterials, such as ...
